Grids and Composition: Websites and Newsletters

To understand grids and composition, I designed two wireframes for my place of work, The Aldrich. First, I analyzed the website. I wanted to re-structure the site to create a more coherent and explorative hierarchy and structure. I tried to simplify the website as much as possible and utilize the logo as an arrow across the page, even using it at the top as drop down menu button for the different pages the website consists of. I chose to include a carousel with different topics at the top of the page, with images that capture the museum’s visitors and art. The carousel pages would link to pages like Visit, Current Exhibitions, and Upcoming Events.

For the newsletter, I chose to illustrate a promotional e-blast for an upcoming exhibition that was more lively and colorful. Taking information from a press release and the website, I sought to make a reading experience people would find engaging and to-the point. I stuck to a color scheme that reflected the artist and used a quote to display the artist’s voice prominently. The title and image are the largest pieces on top, and the important information is highlighted in color. After the introduction, I created boxes of information about the exhibition with their own titles and images to keep readers’ attention.

Take a look at the two wireframes below!
