Hi Internet! It’s Me, Gloria

I’ve thought about creating my own blog for a long time. People* would always tell me “Ah, you’re a writer? Do you have a blog? You’ve gotta start a blog!” And honestly, just thinking about how many well-meaning folks have told me to make one of these things sends my eyes to the back of my skull.

*People: professors, my parents, career counselors, rando’s making small talk with me, my therapist.

But finally, here I am.

Oh yeah, this is supposed to be an introduction post, right?

By now, you know my name is Gloria Celeste Perez. You can call me Glo or Glowwy, as my friends do. Or if you’d like to stick to formalities, Gloria is just fine. I was raised in a town called Trumbull, Connecticut, just about an hour or so from New York. I attended Emerson College in Boston, Massachusetts, and graduated in 2019 with a BS in Journalism and a minor in Post-Colonial Studies. I am currently enrolled in Quinnipiac University’s Masters in Interactive Media and Communications. I am now living my post-grad life as a freelance writer and odd-job doer.

I have always been drawn to the world wide web. As someone who was born at the cusp of both the Millennial Generation and Gen Z, how could I not be? In my life span, I have witnessed the evolution of social media. Once I was allowed to have a Facebook, the doors opened– I was on everything. I taught myself HTML basics in high school for the sole purpose of customizing my tumblr. I created my own graphics, .gifs, and the occasional meme for no reason but pure fun. I was a master of my own little world.

Now, as a college graduate, I no longer have a tumblr dedicated to fandom, witty text posts, and memes; but I have found myself still tangled in the web. I have worked in publicity, communications, and digital fields throughout all of my internships during my time at school. While I concentrated primarily on print and multimedia journalism, I couldn’t help but focus the digital aspects of the field. I even served as the Web Director and Editor for the only monthly magazine on campus, Your Magazine, for two years.

As I continue my studies throughout Qunnipiac’s Master’s program online, and amidst a global pandemic that requires isolation and digital mode of communication and lifestyle, I see a unique opportunity to really hone in on my writing, skills, and overall education. And I’m actually pretty excited to start this blog.
