A Digital Home
The way these past years have flown by has been astounding. When I began the Interactive Media Communications Master of Science program, I was pretty fresh out of undergrad. Soon enough, the pandemic arrived and I was at a foggy crossroads, unable see what the path ahead could even look like. When I was accepted into this program, I saw an opportunity to take the time for myself and get out of my comfort zone.
I had no idea that how challenging it would be. However, it has also been extremely rewarding. Throughout my graduate education, I was put to the task of creating new and exciting projects each semester. I honed and nurtured the skills I already had like graphic design and analytics; and worked through the frustration and confusion of more challenging subjects like HTML and UX until I was not only satisfied, but amazed with the work I was able to create.
The project that I am most amazed with is the website you’re reading now. It’s gone through many versions of itself from its inception, and taken on a life of its own. Every time I learned something new in class, I would update my website to better reflect the knowledge and ability I had obtained. It’s my little corner of the internet, as the title suggests, a digital home.
I think I have always considered the internet as a second home. I am a part of that generation that can say the internet raised them, especially in my most formative years. In an essay from her book, Trick Mirror, Jia Tolentino said something that resonates with me, calling the internet a village-turned city that “expanded at time-lapse speed, social connections bristling like neurons in every direction.” There’s something so fascinating about how much we’re able to create and share here.
This site contains countless blog posts, expansive projects, and a representation of myself that I am proud to share. There are website design projects including the more technical aspects of wire framing and coding; to research methods like usability testing and personas. There are creative projects like my comprehensive visual design portfolio and a podcast project. I have even gone on to include my professional work on here because I want to continue to use this platform for my own professional use going forward.
I’m excited to see where this newfound understanding of the digital landscape will take me as I settle into my place here.
Thanks for stopping by! I’ll see you again soon.
